Neonatal Follow up...

So a few of weeks ago I took the babies in for their Neonatal followup appointment. It's when the babies see every sort of doctor-pediatrician, neurologist, audiologist, physical therapist, psychologist, and a dietitian. It's for babies born at 27 weeks or earlier and they just want to follow their development. And best of all, I don't have to pay a penny! ;) But man they check pretty much every hair on their head. Which is nice. But we were only there for 5 1/2 hours! HA! All 3 did really good. Gavin and Jacee didn't pass their hearing test so they hooked them up to this thing and it detected fluid in their ears-looks like they had an inner ear infection, so they put them on an antibiotic. They hadn't been whiny, or had fevers so I would have never known. They said Jacee was right on for her actual age developmentally! That is so awesome because they say it usually takes a year for every month early they are to catch up to their actual age, so that means they shouldn't be caught up until they are 3 1/2!!! Both the boys were on for the corrected age, which is still good because it means they really aren't behind. Gavin did get in "trouble" for being too skinny so we are now adding more calories to everything he eats. And when the neurologist was checking Jacee he heard what he called a bruit (pronounced broo-E) in her soft spot on her head. They explained it to me about a million times, and I had Maureen "dumb" it down for me, but I still don't really understand what it meant. :) Basically it has something to do with vessels from the heart. It's not something you want to be wrong. But they said they really weren't that worried because she doesn't have any signs of a heart problem, like failure to thrive-kids with this condition don't grow, don't eat well, are pale and have no energy and that is so NOT Jacee. But they wanted her to go in for a MRI just to make sure. Better safe than sorry.

So on January 9th I took her to Primary's for the MRI. They gave her some sedation medicine through an IV before the MRI. The poor thing was so upset because it took the people 3 tries to get the IV. They just had me hold her, which I don't know if that was the best idea because she just kept looking at me like "why are you letting them do this to me, help me!" it was so sad, broke my heart. The medicine was very fast acting, she went right to sleep. It only took about 20 min for the MRI, but they make them sleep off the medicine which was 2 hours. But the doctor came out and said that everything looked GREAT!!! I was so relieved. He said they probably just heard something that sounded like an echo since her soft spot is still open??? So all is well with that! Yipee.

Here are just some random pics of the babies, I took some of Jacee at the hospital with my phone but I'm still trying to figure out how to get them off my phone.

My uncle Dave and aunt Kim sent the babies these cute shirts!

Here's Jacee ripping Jaxon's glasses off! Oh Jacee!

Rub-a-dub-dub 3 babies in the tub!

The babies all get way excited when Aaron gets home from work, and he can't just pick up one of them!

Devree came over to play!...

I am so glad that everything is good with the babies. I am glad there is nothing wrong with Jacee. Let's get together soon. It sounds like Dax had fun with Aaron at Walking with the Dinosaurs. Talk to ya soon.

I am glad that the MRI came out OK. Glad to hear that they are all doing great developementally.
Lousy that you have 2 with ear infections but glad that they aren't acting like they have ear infections.
