So even after being SOOO careful with the babies and not taking them anywhere, we still got RSV! They even get RSV shots every month that are about $3300 per shot, per baby, per month, so our portion for those shots every month is about $2000!!!--sorry, have to vent a little I guess! (they do say that it doesn't prevent RSV, it just makes it so if they get it it won't be so severe) I do have to admit that it's my fault I guess, I got a stupid cold first! Jacee got sick a couple of days later but she just had a yucky nose and a low grade fever, nothing too bad. But a couple days after Jacee got sick Jaxon woke up not wanting to eat anything at all and then later in the afternoon I noticed he was breathing really fast and retracting with each breath. So I called Aaron and told him to come home because I was sure that Jaxon needed to go to the hospital. As soon as Aaron got to the hospital they got Jax right back (all you have to do is mention that he was a 24 weeker and not breathing good), and they did a RSV test and it was positive! The doctor there was not comfortable treating a 24 weeker so they sent him by ambulance down to Primary Children's. They put him on a little bit of oxygen, gave him breathing treatments, suctioned him out every couple of hours and he was doing pretty good. But the doctor said that RSV is usually worse on days 3-5, and boy was he right! By day 3 Jaxon was really working hard to breath so they decided to put him on a high flow oxygen machine that "forces" the oxygen in the lungs by blowing pressure in with the O2. They started him at a high amount at a time (6 liters) hoping that they would slowly be able to turn down the liters. But nope, they ended up turning it up higher to 7! Since they had to turn it up they decided that he needed to go to the ICU!!! I'm so glad it was Aaron's turn to stay with him that night, I don't think I could have handled that news right then!
So we had already been there 6 days-4 of which were in the ICU so far, and Aaron was home with Gav who had had a fever and been whiny for the past couple days but seemed to be breathing okay so we hoped it was just a cold like Jacee. But we decided that Aaron should take Gav to the doc just to make sure, and when they got there they checked his oxygen saturation levels and don't you worry he was 64! (your suppose to be close to 100) So off to Primary's they went, and they did a RSV check as soon as he got there, and yep it was positive! So now we had 2 little boys admitted to the hospital, but they couldn't share a room since Jax was still in the ICU and Gav wasn't so critical. So then both me and Aaron had to stay up at the hospital with each of them. So thanks again mom, dad, Nicole & Derek for helping with Jacee and Dax. And thanks to Aaron's parents for bringing us dinner so many times! And also, thanks Maureen for coming up and sitting with Gav so I could go home and shower! But after one night of being in separate rooms Jaxon was finally able to get out of the ICU and my boys got to share a room! A silver lining I guess you could say. Once they saw each other they both started smiling, it was so cute! Gav just needed some oxygen and they both had to be suctioned a lot (which they absolutely hated!!!) Poor little Gav got to the point that if ANYONE walked in the room he rolled on his back and started screaming-even if it was just the housekeeping! He's a little sensitive, so all of this put him right over the edge! Then there was Jaxon, pretty sure he had all the nurses wrapped around his little finger. Once he started feeling better he was all smiles!
And amid all of this, Aaron's sister Ashley's little girls got it but were lucky enough to get to treat it at home, but his other sister Amanda's little girl actually got admitted the day before Gavin did with it, so we had a nice little family reunion during all this. ;) It was kinda nice knowing she was right upstairs. (the hospital was sooo full of RSV kids that they put you wherever they had a room, so we ended up in the Neuro Trauma unit!) It was kind of sad leaving her there when we got discharged. :( We were lucky enough to have the boys discharged at the same time, Gavin did have to go home with a little bit of oxygen that he has to do for a few more days. But we can handle that! So Jaxon ended up being there 9 days, Gavin was there 4 days and little Maggie was there 7 days.
The doctors say that Jacee probably did have it too she just didn't get it as severe as the boys. I'm soooo glad that we live close to Primary Children's Hospital, they are amazing and I loved the care we got there. Hope it's the last time we go through this! I had MANY breakdowns at the hospital. Having triplets is hard enough without out them getting sick!
Jaxon

Jaxon-this was before he got real sick

This was when Jax started getting sicker.
Poor little Jax, really didn't feel good at this point.

Now here's Gav
Gavin getting a treatment and trying to get the heck outta there!
Together at last!!!
Once Jax started feeling better he was a little monkey! He would reach out of his crib and try and grab anything he could!
Gavin thought he'd give his eyeballs a treatment instead!

So no fun. I am sorry. I am glad that they are home and doing better now. Man, what a roller coaster of a ride for you guys.
Wow. That SUCKS! I am so sorry your poor boys had to go through that. RSV is horrible enough but I bet it just hits them even harder. Hope you guys are doing better and they can all stay healthy! :) Did you ever sell your house? No such luck down here for us.
So sorry that you had to go through all of that. You were in our prayers, sorry thats all the help we gave.
I am glad that they are feeling better. It is never fun to have a baby with RSV let alone 2. Let's just hope for springtime soon!!!
Oh Brooke!
I went to Amanda today and she was telling me about your crazy RSV. We just have it at our house to. We are not in the hospital but poor little Landon's room looks like a hospital room with all of our home care things! Hope they are doing better.
